The tungsten electrode is made by adding rare earth CERIUM oxide to tungsten base through powder metallurgy, calendaring molding and other processes. As a non-radioactive tungsten electrode product, it is characterized by excellent electric arc initiating performance under low electric current condition and small arc current. Therefore, it is commonly used for welding the pipes, stainless steel products and small precision parts.
Cerium tungsten electrode is the preferred alternative to thorium tungsten electrode under low current DC conditions or electrode diameter below 2.0mm. Radioactivity may be produced in the process of powder metallurgy and calendaring molding of the thorium tungsten electrode, which, results in the environment contamination. So the production of thorium tungsten electrode is limited in European and American countries, but its uses are not limited because of its excellent welding performance.

2) The Use of Spot Energy Storage Welding
Energy storage welding is a kind of welding technology that uses the charge stored in a certain capacity capacitor to make the welding torch instantaneously discharge 2-3 times per second through the welding material and the workpiece with high frequency pulse, so that the welding material and the workpiece can achieve metallurgical combination at the instantaneous contact point.
It suits for the work environment and the workpiece surface that should strictly control the splashing sparks, the heat spread and the high temperature. Because the process of the energy storage welding is from spot to surface, it will not produce large-area high temperature. So the biggest advantage is its application in which that should not be under high temperature welding, and heat deformation annealing condition.
