Tungsten welding electrode in different application has names such as: tungsten welding rod, welding discharge pin, electrostatic dust discharge pin，argon arc welding electrode，the electro- resistivity property probe pin, spot welding electrode pin, electro- resistance welding electrode, tungsten probe pin etc.

The utility of pure tungsten electrode is most widely used in the AC- alternating current condition. It is generally used for welding aluminum or magnesium alloy. So, aircraft industry needs it commonly. It’s also applied in the fields of mechanical, electronics, lighting, semiconductor, vacuum heating, solar photovoltaic industries.

Under the condition of DC welding, the electrode is prone to non-arc or unstable; whereas by adding rare earth oxide can greatly improve this situation. Therefore, pure tungsten electrode is only used as welding electrode or as resistance welding electrode under AC condition.

By adding rare earth CERIUM oxide to tungsten base through powder metallurgy, calendaring molding and other processes，as a non-radioactive tungsten electrode product, it is characterized by excellent electric arc initiating performance under low electric current condition. Therefore, it is commonly used for welding the pipes, stainless steel products and small precision parts. Cerium tungsten electrode is the preferred alternative to thorium tungsten electrode under low current DC conditions or electrode diameter below 2.0mm.
