The tungsten electrode is made by adding rare earth CERIUM oxide to tungsten base through powder metallurgy, calendaring molding and other processes. As a non-radioactive tungsten electrode product, it is characterized by excellent electric arc initiating performance under low electric current condition and small arc current. Therefore, it is commonly used for welding the pipes, stainless steel products and small precision parts.
Cerium tungsten electrode is the preferred alternative to thorium tungsten electrode under low current DC conditions or electrode diameter below 2.0mm.
Though radioactive contamination occurs in the process of powder metallurgy and calendaring grinding and in some area the production of thorium tungsten electrode is restricted, so far it is the tungsten electrode with the best welding performance, and its usages are not limited.
Applications of the Yttrium Tungsten Electrodes:
During welding, the arc is long and slim, the compression performance is excellent, and the melting depth is maximum at medium and large current. It is mainly used in military industry and aerospace industry.
Zirconiated tungsten electrode, this type of electrode is developed to improve the fact that the pure tungsten electrode is easy to melt itself and pollute the workpiece under the condition of high current load. In this condition, the outstanding characteristic is that the end of this electrode can keep into a round arc ball and reduce the tungsten penetration phenomenon and has good corrosion resistance.
The conductive property is close to 2% thorium tungsten electrode, its characteristic is that its enduring current is high, and the burning rate is minimum. It is the improved varieties of thorium tungsten products.
