The utility of pure tungsten electrode is most widely used in the AC- alternating current condition. It is generally used for welding aluminum or magnesium alloy. So, aircraft industry needs it commonly. It’s also applied in the fields of mechanical, electronics, lighting, semiconductor, vacuum heating, solar photovoltaic industries.
Under the condition of DC welding, the electrode is prone to non-arc or unstable; whereas by adding rare earth oxide can greatly improve this situation. Therefore, pure tungsten electrode is only used as welding electrode or as resistance welding electrode under AC condition.
Pure or alloy tungsten is widely served as tungsten electrode material in argon arc welding technology.
